Well, let me tell ya ’bout this 1899 Chinese zodiac thing. I ain’t no scholar, ya know, but I heard some things from folks.

So, they say back in 1899, it was the year of the Pig. Yep, a Pig. Not just any pig, mind you, a Yellow Earth Pig, they called it. Sounds kinda fancy, huh? I reckon it means somethin’ special. They got all these animals, see? Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. And each year gets one of them animals. It goes in a circle, like, every twelve years it starts all over again. Like my old rooster crowing every morning, round and round he goes.
What does it mean to be a Pig?
Now, if you was born in 1899, between February 3rd, 1899, and January 31st, 1900, that means you’re a Pig. They say Pigs are lucky. They got them chubby little faces and big ears, and that means good fortune, so they say. Pigs, they ain’t no dummies neither. They’re down to earth and they get things done. They don’t mess around when they need to make a decision. And they like to enjoy life, but they ain’t wasteful with their money, not like some folks I know.

They got other things too, like metal, water, wood, fire… It all mixes together somehow, makin’ each year a little different.
Why should I care about some old Zodiac?
Well, some folks, they believe it tells ya somethin’ about yourself. Like, if you’re a Pig, maybe you’re like those things I said before. Lucky, smart, and practical. And maybe it tells ya who you get along with best, or what kind of year you’re gonna have. Me, I don’t put too much stock in it, but it’s fun to think about, ain’t it? It’s like looking up at the stars and wonderin’ what it all means.

Now, if you weren’t born in 1899, you might be wonderin’ what your animal is. Well, it’s easy to figure out. Just find your birth year, and there’s charts and things all over the place that’ll tell ya. They got ‘em online now, all fancy and such. Or you could ask an old timer, they might know. Remember though, it goes by the Chinese calendar, so it starts a little later than our New Year, somewhere in January or February.
It goes on and on…
This whole Zodiac thing, it just keeps going, year after year. From 1900 all the way to 2031 and beyond, they got it all figured out. Each year with its own animal, its own element, its own story. It’s kinda like a big ol’ circle, always turnin’, always changin’, but always the same in a way.
So, that’s the gist of it, as best as I can tell ya. The 1899 Chinese Zodiac, the year of the Earth Pig. Lucky, practical, and down to earth. Not a bad thing to be, I reckon.
